Kiersten Zabinski-Kaplan Mrs. Kiersten Zabinski-Kaplan is the construction site superintendent, that means she gets everything in the right place. She said, “I’m like a conductor.” Mrs. Zabinski-Kaplan helps hard working site workers [a.k.a. crews]. She makes sure they are in the right place at the right time. The crews also need to be safe and it’s part of her job. Mrs. Zabinski-Kaplan helps make sure the right materials are used correctly and in the right places.
We asked Mrs. Zabinski-Kaplan, “What is your favorite part of your job?” She said, “it always changes. I’m always outside all day dealing with people all the time.” The most difficult part of Mrs. Zabinski-Kaplan's job is getting crews to do things that are difficult and to understand the tricky things. Also working around the weather is hard for Mrs. Zabinski-Kaplan’s job.
Drew Cohen
This is Mr. Cohen and he is the project manager in the Longfellow renovation. His role is to manage all the contracts and the money. For example, he makes sure everything is in order and everything is going as planned. Mr. Cohen has to make sure that the cement workers, window workers, plumbers, etc. are working together to get the renovation done.
Mr. Cohen’s favorite part of his job is to build new and exciting schools for kids and teachers. He also likes making sure kids are staying in a healthy environment. The hardest part of his job is dealing with all the different sub-contractors.
Chad Porter Mr. Chad Porter is the Howard County Public Schools Construction Project Manager assigned to Longfellow Elementary. “I like seeing the school when it is completely finished.” Mr. Porter tells us. He explains to us that he especially loves when everything goes as planned. Different parts include making sure that the school construction is completed on schedule and the school construction isn’t too expensive for Howard County Public School System to afford at the time.
Mr. Porter has a huge part in our Longfellow renovation, and he will make sure that the renovation runs smoothly.
